Knee Pain Oak Park

Physiotherapists are renowned for effectively and quickly treating chronic and acute knee injuries due to their extensive knowledge of the musculoskeletal system. Whether you are young or old, are extremely active or inactive, or whether your knee issue is short or long term, physiotherapy can help you by reducing pain and inflammation and building strength.

Your knees are a vital part of everyday movement and activity, and it is incredibly important to look after them. Knees are vulnerable to injury and physiotherapy can act not only as a treatment for the post injury patient, but also as a preventative measure.

Causes

Acute injuries of the knee such as cartilage, cruciate or collateral ligament tears are commonly associated with trauma related to daily living, sports injuries and car accidents.  The knee is also prone to more chronic conditions such as arthritis often resultant from poor biomechanics.

A very common cause of knee pain is due know of patella tracking disorder.  Patellar tracking disorder is a condition which occurs when your patella (kneecap) moves out of its original place when the leg straightens or bends.  In most cases, the kneecap shifts too far toward the outside of the leg, although in a few people it shifts toward the inside.

Through assessment of the biomechanics of the knee, identification of muscle imbalance or loss in joint motion, the cause of your knee pain can be accurately diagnosed. When accurately diagnosed, the treatment plan will be most effective as the treatment will be specific and best for your condition.

Treatment

Physiotherapists use a combination of hands on treatment, exercise and stretches as well as a number of therapeutic machines such as ultrasound and interferential.

Physical treatment helps to restore normal motion of the joints, and loosen tight muscles to release tension. Furthermore, your physiotherapist will teach you rehabilitation exercises to build strength and quicken your recovery.

Whether you are dealing with an acute injury, high level rehabilitation following a severe injury or post surgery, your physiotherapist will devise a specific treatment plan tailored to your exact needs.
